The Priory is the most famous wine region of Catalonia, a Mecca for wine fans. Based local wineries were monks 13 century, but at the time of the dictator Franco fell into decay. Everything changed only in the late 1970s, when the region was practically rediscovered by a group of Spanish winemakers led by the famous Rene Barbier and Alvaro Palacios. They believed that, what, due to the unique characteristics of local soils and climate, with the right approach in the Priory, you can establish the production of wine of the highest quality. And they turned out to be right: literally a few years later, wines from priory wineries began to take first prizes and break records at world auctions. In our 2000 year Priorat was certified for DOQ (Denominació d'Origen Qualificada) - the highest quality for Spanish wines, apart from the Priory, only the Rioja region has passed this certification.
